Devotion: Whatever You Allow

Are you one who believes that the things that happen in your life are ordained by God or that it is part of God’s will for your life?  If this is what you believe, then this message may be for you, provided you have an ear to hear.  Because the Church has redefined “the sovereignty of God” to mean, “God is in total control and that nothing happens but that which the will of God allows to happen,” many believers and non-believers as well, have been led to believe that God is somehow responsible for everything that happens in our lives.  But the truth of the matter is that “the sovereign God of the universe” is limited as to what he can and cannot do.  Now that we have your attention, let us explain exactly what we mean that God is limited.

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, …” (Ephesians 3:20).

Most people say they believe that God is able to do exceeding abundantly above and far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of because this has been attached to the redefinition of “the sovereignty of God.”  The problem is that this statement, as it is stated above, is an incomplete, incorrect statement.  The truth is that God is only able to do exceeding abundantly above far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of “according to the mighty power that is at work within us.”  This is that part of the passage that tells us that, yes, God can do exceeding abundantly above all that we could ever dare to ask or even dream of but it is “completely dependent upon the mighty power that is at work within us.”  God’s ability to do things in our life is completely dependent something that is inside of us, a mighty power that works inside of us called “faith.”  This passage should make it abundantly clear that even though God can truly do anything, when it comes to things happening in our life, he is limited by our faith and our cooperation with him.

This implies that we have total control over the things that God is able to do in our life.  It is basically saying that our faith and/or our willingness to cooperate with God can cause God to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, while at the same time, our lack of faith and/or our unwillingness to cooperate can adversely affect the God’s ability to do such things.  While this may sound foreign to some of you, consider this: if God’s ability to do things in our life is completely dependent upon our faith and willingness to cooperate, then the same can surely be applied to our enemies, the devil and the principalities, powers, and rulers of the darkness of this world and their ability to do things in our life.

“Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 18:18).

Scripture tells us that “anything whatsoever” that we “bind, tie, fasten, put under obligation, forbid, prohibit, or declare to be illicit” on earth will be “bound, tied, fastened, put under obligation, forbidden, prohibited, or declared to be illicit” in heaven.  And in addition, “anything whatsoever” that we “loose, unbind, untie, unfasten, set free, allow, or permit” on earth will be “loosed, unbound, untied, unfastened, set free, allowed, or permitted” in heaven.  Now, for those of you who may try refute, try to abuse, or even try to reinterpret this passage because of the “anything whatsoever” phrase, know that the “anything whatsoever” is limited to those things covered in the covenant promises of God.  God will never allow us to use the “anything whatsoever” phrase against him to commit a sin.  Committing sin is not part of the covenant promises.

Please make note that both actions, the binding and the loosening starts with us and they start with us “on earth.”  Then and only then are things bound or loosed “in heaven.”  The bottom line is that God is limited by “the power that works in us” when it comes to his ability “to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.”  God will allow “the anything whatsoever” we allow and he will forbid “the anything whatsoever” we forbid.  The same principle applies to our enemies; they can only do to us that which we allow them to do to us.  But know this, our enemies do not play fair and our “lack of knowledge” (Hosea 4:6) about our covenant promises will not stop them from taking advantage of us.

According to our covenant promises, our enemies can be bound by us on this earth, in this day, in this time and once bound by us on earth, they will be bound in heaven as well.  How awesome is that.  So, if you want complete victory in your life, then find out what your covenant promises are and then use then to your advantage.  Until you decide to bind that “unacceptable anything whatsoever,” you will continue to have that “unacceptable anything whatsoever” in your life.  And at the same time, until you decide to release that “acceptable anything whatsoever” into your life, you will continue to lack that “acceptable anything whatsoever” in your life.  Whatever you allow is that whatever you will have.

As you read to today’s inspirational message, we pray that this message will bless you, inform you, and that you will be the better for having read it.  If blessed by this message, please share so that others may be blessed as well.  Amen.

Enjoy your blessings - KW
