Great things happen when you believe. But for great things to happen, you need faith. Faith is an interesting word, that has been defined in many ways. Understanding faith is important to making it work for you. So, what exactly is faith?
According to Hebrews 11:1,
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (KJV).
Faith is the evidence of a thing hoped for, the evidence that the thing exists but it is not the thing itself. Faith is the substance or tangibility of hope. While hope cannot change circumstances, it can change attitudes about circumstances and how things are perceived or seen. Hope is the goal setter and faith be the way to achieve the goal. Faith is one of the most powerful things that God has given man, “as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith” (Romans 12:3). When used to its full measure, faith can cause great things to happen.
Faith is made up of three elements, belief, confidence or conviction, and action.
- First, you must BELIEVE, which is accepting that something can be true or that something is real when it has not been seen.
- Then you will need CONFIDENCE or CONVICTION which is believing or trusting that something is, especially when there is no logical proof that it exists.
- Next, there is ACTION, which is doing something in order to reach a goal, to obtain a result, or to get that thing which you hoped for.
Whenever there is faith, there is also some type of action, a corresponding action. Faith is your positive response to what God has already made available through his covenant promises. Faith can only take from what God has already provided for you. Everywhere you see faith expressed in the Bible, there is some type of corresponding action associated with that faith. Faith is confidently acting upon what you believe, what appears to be impossible and expecting results.
So, how important is your faith? Scripture tells us that “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes” (Mark 9:23 NKJV). Your faith plays a key role in causing those great things to happen. Your faith plays a key role in making all things possible. Your faith plays a key role in all things God, but it is your faith in God that makes what seems to be impossible, possible.
Understand, God is a faith God. Everything pertaining to God and the things of God involves faith on your part. There are many definitions for faith, but the one that I am drawn to the most says,“faith is trust in somebody or something, especially without logical proof.” For the believer, faith is trusting in, believing in and/or depending upon God and accepting that he exists when there is no physical proof of his existence or of his reality.
- Faith in God is having the courage to let God have control.
- Faith in God is having the courage to put everything in his hands and then trusting that he will do what he has said he would do.
- Faith in God means that through the hard times, the bad times, or the rough times, you still have faith in him.
- Faith in God is believing he is working things out for you, even when you don’t feel it and can’t see it.
- Faith in God changes everything, including your perception of things and/or your current situation.
God wants a relationship with you. God wants you to believe in him. God wants you to depend on him. God wants you to believe that he will take care of you. God needs you to live by faith. God needs you to walk by faith. Faith is seeing light with your heart when all your eyes see is darkness. With this kind of faith, great things happen when you believe.
“And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God” (Mark 11:22 KJV). “And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God” (Luke 18:27 KJV). “Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible’” (Matthew 19:26 NIV). “Then Jesus said, ‘Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?’” (John 11:40 NIV).
Jesus makes it very clear that those things that seem impossible with man are not impossible to God, for “with God all things are possible.” Faith in God makes all things possible. More importantly, faith in “the word of God” make all things possible. God turns impossible to possible.
As for me, I choose to believe, I choose to believe in the power of his word, and I choose to place my faith in God, “for with God nothing shall be impossible.” Faith in God causes the impossible to be made possible. These are just a few things that I have found that causes those seemingly impossible things to happen in my life. I know that they will help you to see the same happen in your life. Great things happen when you believe, so expect great things from God, expect the impossible. Amen.
