There are a lot of so-called Christians walking around defeated. By defeated, we mean that they have not yet fully experienced all that God has made available to them through the new covenant, “a better covenant, which was established upon better promises” (Hebrews 8:6). By defeated, we mean that they have not yet experienced that “more abundant life” that Jesus spoke of in John 10:10. The really sad part is that they do not even realize that they are defeated, living a defeated life. They claim the blood of Jesus over their lives but it is of no effect or at best, it has a partial effect on their lives. The biggest culprit is not the devil or any other outside forces, but it is an internal force known as “self,” what we will refer to as “an image problem.”
“For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he: …” (Proverbs 23:7).
Whatever a man (or woman) thinks of himself in his heart is what he will be. However a man sees himself is how that man will be. The man will act according to what he thinks of himself and according to how he sees himself. Therefore, if a man thinks of and sees himself as “just an old sinner saved by grace,” then he will always consider himself to be “just an old sinner” and he will act accordingly. Or, if a man thinks of and sees himself as “a loser,” then he will always consider himself to be “a loser” and he will act accordingly. Not only is this “an image problem,” it is also “an identity problem.”
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12).
Everyone is given the power to become a son or daughter of God. We are given the opportunity to become “a child of God,” but there are “some conditions” attached to it. Everyone “who receives his only begotten son” and “who believes on his name” is freely given or receives the right to become “a child of the Almighty God.” This means that unless the conditions set forth by God are met, then “one does not receive the power to become a child of God.” You see, everyone is “a creation of God,” but not everyone is “a child of God.” In order “to receive” what God has freely given us all, which includes “salvation, everlasting life, and the power to become a child of God, etc.,” we each have “to actively” meet the conditions that God has set.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (II Corinthians 5:17). “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond (slave) nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:27-28).
Because we have made the choice “to actively” meet the conditions that God has set forth and accept all that he has freely given, we now be “new creatures.” As new creatures, we have been baptized into union with Christ, we have put on Christ, like a new suit, and we now belong to Christ. We be “a new creation in Christ Jesus.” As this new creation in Christ Jesus, then we are no longer “just an old sinner saved by grace” or “a loser” but we are now “a child of the Almighty God.”
“For ye are all the children (sons) of God by faith in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:26). “And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:29). “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3).
Through his death, Jesus reconciled us back into agreement with God (Ephesians 2:14-22), brought us back to God while we were enemies, haters of God (Romans 5:10), and gave us the privilege to become a child of God (John 1:12), so that all could share in the blessing of Abraham and receive the promise of the Spirit through faith (Galatians 3:14). As “a child of God,” by faith in Christ Jesus, we are heirs according to the promise, having the right to the inheritance of the new covenant, a better covenant, built with better promises (Hebrews 8:6-13) and the right to a divine inheritance to the best in life; deserving all the Father has to offer (Romans 8:14-17), which includes the right to good health, wealth, and total life prosperity (III John 1:2). And because we be in Christ Jesus and are children of God, God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places. No longer should we think of ourselves as “just an old sinner saved by grace.” No longer should we think of ourselves as “a loser.” No longer should we think of ourselves as anything other than “a child of the Almighty God.” As a man thinks in his heart, so is he. So, change your thinking and it will change your attitude. And as you change your attitude, it will change your “image problem.”
We pray that this message will bless you, inform you, and that you will be the better for having read it. If blessed by this message, please share so that others may be blessed as well. Amen.
Enjoy your blessings - KW
