Throughout the scriptures, we see where God has always provided for man. Nowhere is this more evident than in the beginning, when God first created the heavens and the earth.
“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day” (Genesis 1:3-5). “And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good” (Genesis 1:14-18).
God created “light” and he separated the light from the darkness. God also created two great lights, a greater light to rule over the day and a lesser one to rule over the night. To this very day, we still have “the light” separated from “the darkness,” ruled by these two great lights. It is as if God created this “never-ending supply” where we continually have light separated from darkness. As we look at the rest of creation, we see this same “never-ending supply” of things. From the firmament or the sky, which contains the very air that we breathe to the waters, which supplies the very water that we drink (Genesis 1:6-10) and from the grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree (Genesis 1:11-13) to every living creature that hath life (Genesis 1:19-25), all have the ability to reproduce “after their own kind.” Again, it is as if God created everything as a “never-ending supply” of things. With this abundantly supplied creation, God then created man (Genesis 1:26-27) and placed him in the garden (Genesis 2:7-8), a garden that was so abundantly supplied, everything man could ever need or want was there waiting for him (Genesis 1:29-30). God with his infinite wisdom was able to provide for all of man’s needs where all man had to do was to reach out and take what he needed. He did not have to do anything other than receive from the abundant supply, this “never-ending supply” of things that God had provided.
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19).
Today, we have the same abundant supply. This “never-ending supply” of things that was provided for the first man in the garden, is supplied for us as well. However, unlike earlier where man could just reach and take, there is a slight hiccup to how we access this “never-ending supply.” In order for us to receive this abundant supply, this “never-ending supply” of things, we must go through Christ Jesus, because it is from God’s riches in glory by Jesus Christ that God supplies all of our needs. Other than this small hiccup, God promises to supply all of our needs, providing this “never-ending supply” of things similar to what was provided for the first man in the garden.
“And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen” (Genesis
22:14).
It was Abraham who gave us the word “Jehovah Jireh,” which has been translated to mean, “the Lord will see to it,” or “the Lord will provide.” When God told Abraham to offer his son Isaac as a burnt offering, God had seen the need and provided, long before they arrived at the mountain, a ram for Abraham to sacrifice instead of Isaac (Genesis 12:13). God has seen ahead and has provided for all of our need according to his riches in glory by or through Christ Jesus.
