Devotion: Magnify God

The Bible says, “The just shall live by faith” (Romans 1:17), but most believers do not live there, that is to say that they do not “live by faith.”  What we do instead is, we visit there from time to time.  Yes, we live by faith on occasion, but we never dwell there, nor do we take up residency there.  And though we see things that causes us to believe that anything is possible with God many times over, we fail to constantly maintain that belief, that level of faith that the scriptures say, “we should live by.”  Because we fail to live there, to take residency, we tend to be “carnally minded,” which the scripture says is “death” (Romans 8:6).  Carnally mindedness is being focused on the things of this world from a human emotional standpoint.  Carnally minded people fail to focus on God, fail to focus on his word, and fail to focus on the things of God.

“Because when they knew and recognized Him as God, they did not honor and glorify Him as God or give Him thanks.  But instead they became futile and godless in their thinking [with vain imaginings, foolish reasoning, and stupid speculations] and their senseless minds were darkened” (Romans 1:21 AMPC).

Scripture tells us that when they knew God, they did not recognize him as God.  They did not respect him, nor did they place a high value on him.  They did not glorify him as God or give him thanks.  They did not render to God what was due him.  They did not esteem or respect him.  This eventually led to foolish thinking that caused their hearts to become darkened and their minds to become confused.  You see, whatever we place our attention upon, whatever we place our mind upon we “glorify or magnify.”  The word “magnify” means “to make bigger.”  Is it possible for us to actually affect the size of God?  Certainly not, God is who he is regardless of whether we “magnify” him or not.  But here is the important thing to keep in mind; as far as our perception goes, we can make God bigger or we can make God smaller.  As we neglect the things of God or as we do not focus on the things of God, then we decrease the size of God in our lives.  As we do not glorify God or as we do not give God the honor that is due him, then we decrease the size of God in our lives.  And as we do not render what God is due or as we do not esteem or value God the way that we should, then we decrease the size of God in our lives.  However, as we give God glory, as we esteem or value God the way that we should, and as we render what God is due, then we “magnify” God and make him bigger in our lives.

“Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I show the salvation of God” (Psalm 50:23).

When we praise God, we glorify him. And when we glorify God, we “magnify” him, making him bigger.  It is the “magnifying of God” that makes God bigger in our lives as far as our perception goes.  People who are not focused on God are not thankful people.  When we glorify God, like we are supposed to, thankfulness is an immediate by-product of that glorification.  People who are not thankful people do not focus on the things of God and they do not “magnify God.”

“But understand this, that in the last days dangerous times [of great stress and trouble] will come [difficult days that will be hard to bear].  For people will be lovers of self [narcissistic, self-focused], lovers of money [impelled by greed], boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy and profane, [and they will be] unloving [devoid of natural human affection, calloused and inhumane], irreconcilable, malicious gossips, devoid of self-control [intemperate, immoral], brutal, haters of good, traitors, reckless, conceited, lovers of [sensual] pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of [outward] godliness (religion), although they have denied its power [for their conduct nullifies their claim of faith].  Avoid such people and keep far away from them” (II Timothy 3:1-5 AMP).

These verses speak of the end times, which are things that we can see happening daily in the world today.  Contained within this list of terrible things, we see or find that people will be “unthankful or ungrateful and unholy.”  Being unthankful is an “unholy” thing and most people today are “not thankful.”  If you are not a thankful person, then you are “spiritually unhealthy” or “spiritually dead.”

A healthy believer is going to be thankful to God and thankful to others and kind to them as well.  A healthy believer can live in a relationship with God to the point where the love of God can constantly flow through him or her.  A healthy believer will “keep his mind stayed upon God” (Isaiah 26:3) and keep his focus stayed upon the goodness of God.  With that, a healthy believer can be as full of God and of his love, his joy, his peace, his power, and of his anointing as he or she wants to be.  A healthy believer will “glorify or magnify” what God has done in his or her life, which in turn, will diminish or dis-esteem everyone and everything else in their life, no matter the circumstances.  But here is the beauty of all of this, none of this is dependent upon or up to God but up to us as to whether we walk in these things or not.  We first have to “live by faith” and then we can “glorify or magnify” God as we are supposed to do.

We forever pray that our inspirational messages will abundantly bless you, greatly inform you, and that you will be the better for having read them.  If blessed by this message, please share so that others may be blessed as well.  Amen.
