Devotion: Be Thankful

It has been said that the more thankful you are, the more you attract things to be thankful for.  It has also been said that those who take life day by day, those who complain very little, and those who are thankful for the things in life, tend to be happy.  Scripture tells us to “always give thanks for everything to our God and Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20 TLB).  Maybe this is why those who are thankful for the things they have in life are happy truly.

“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.  If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.  And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever” (I John 2:15-17).

A healthy believer is going to be thankful to God and thankful to others and kind to them as well.  A healthy believer can live in a relationship with God to the point where the love of God can constantly flow through him or her.  A healthy believer will “keep his mind stayed upon God” (Isaiah 26:3) and keep his focus stayed upon the goodness of God.  With that, a healthy believer can be as full of God and of his love, his joy, his peace, his power, and of his anointing as he or she wants to be.  A healthy believer will “glorify or magnify” what God has done in his or her life, which in turn, will diminish or dis-esteem everyone and everything else in their life, no matter the circumstances.  But here is the beauty of all of this, none of this is dependent on or up to God, but up to us as to whether we walk in these things or not.  We first have to “live by faith” and then we can “glorify or magnify God” as we are supposed to do.

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.  And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.  And be thankful.  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.   And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Colossians 3:15-17).

There is a peace that comes from God that we are to allow to rule in our heart.  As members of the one body, we are called to live in this peace and to always be thankful.  This is not only our responsibility, but also our privilege.  When we allow this peace to be present in our heart and in our lives, it will settle all questionings.  The teachings of Christ and his words are there to fill and enrich our lives and to make us wise, provided we allow them to do that.  The message of Christ, in all its richness, should be a rich treasure in our heart and its wisdom used to teach and admonish one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, as we sing to God with grace and thanksgiving in our heart.  But here is the thing, whatever we do or say, we are to do as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.

“In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (I Thessalonians 5:18).  “And in that day shall ye say, Praise the Lord, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted.  Sing unto the Lord; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth” (Isaiah 12:4-5).  “Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift” (II Corinthians 9:15).

No matter what happens, we are to always be thankful, for this is God’s will for us who belong to Christ Jesus.  And in that wonderful day, we will give praise to the Lord; we will call upon him as we lift up and honor his holy name.  We will tell the world just how mighty he is and of his wondrous love.  We will sing praises to the Lord for the excellent and noble things that he has done as we make known these things throughout the entire earth.  While we are truly thankful for the good things that occur in our life, let us be equally thankful for the bad things that happen, because they can open our eyes to the good things we weren’t paying attention to before.  Every struggle that we have gone through in life has brought us to where we are today.  They have made each of us into the person that we currently are.  Today, we can truly say that we are thankful for each of those hard times because believe it or not, each one has made us stronger and made us wiser.  Remember, in all things, be thankful, for we all truly have a lot to be thankful for.  So let us live by faith, glorify or magnify God and “always be thankful” as we are supposed to do.  Amen.

We forever pray that our inspirational message will abundantly bless you, greatly inform you, and that you will be the better for having read it.  If blessed by this message, please share so that others may be blessed as well.  Amen.

Enjoy your blessings - KW
